Berlin, Cardiff, Mexico City (July 25, 2022). Are these battle drums or is it a throbbing heart? FUTURE KULT’s fourth single “We” starts off with an infectious, pumping beat, distorted and organic, propulsive like a rush of anger that can no longer be contained. This is life right now: Outside, the world is breaking apart. Inside, we are collapsing under the weight of fake imagery and empty designs for life. The future is robbed from underneath our feet. But we still have a voice, and it is yours, too. “We” is a swansong to an untenable way of running the world. We’re too tired for this shit, we’re too sick for this shit, we’re too proud!”
Following the release of their eponymous debut LP in February of this year, Berlin-based Welsh-Austrian group FUTURE KULT continue their exploration of inner and outer dystopias in their latest track “We”, which manifests as powerful, immediate and infectious EDM-electro-clash.
"A simmering and explosive dense dystopian sonic nightmare for all the senses."
- Monolith Cocktail
For the video to “We”, a stunning retro-futuristic performance piece, FUTURE KULT collaborated with multi-award winning, internationally exhibited Canadian video artist Sabrina Ratté. Through the prism of Ratté’s analog visual synthesizer, the band, helmed by Sion Trefor and Benjamin Zombori, is visually scattered and reassembled over the incessant, intensifying crescendo of a powerful mass of synthesizers, jagged guitars and Trefor’s otherworldly vocals. The video to “We” was directed by Benjamin Zombori. Watch the exclusive preview on YouTube.
FUTURE KULT craft sounds and visions you will not easily forget.
- American Pancake
The initial spark of FUTURE KULT caught on in a remote river valley in Hidalgo, deep in the Mexican countryside. For three months in late 2020, film composer Sion Trefor and musician/art producer Benjamin Zombori left their respective lives in Cardiff and Berlin behind and set out to channel the music of the future. What they created, far off the grid, is the sound of everything, now.
Like a trip into a parallel musical universe, FUTURE KULT's tracks are dark, mystical visions of a world coming undone. Unfolding in a mind-bending mass of mangled vocal chants, raw guitars, stark, whipping beats and driving synthesizers, they describing our current world in which we are all fighting a battle of retreat against overwhelming technological forces.
We is out on on all platforms on Friday, August 19
via Action Wolf Records/AWAL.
“When we started working on this record, we became aware that the world has become too complex to be fully grasped,” note Trefor and Zombori. “Surrounded by paranoia, tragedy, extreme tension and fractured hope, we wanted to create music that courses with everything we feel as humans living in the 2020s.”
With a visceral grip and suffused with mystical undertones, this is music that brims with images of fracturing empires and warping masculinity, war, addiction, heroism and doubt; it is uninhibited by desires to pander to algorithms, to appease platforms and the sycophancy of “content.”
